How To Transfer from Another Society

If you are a current member of another society, or of CFA Institute, you need to submit a completed Status Change Form to CFA Institute. That form can be downloaded at CFA Institute's web site. CFA Institute will forward your completed form to our membership chair for review, and he will present it to our Board for approval. Once the transfer has been approved, we will add you to the Hartford CFA Society membership list. If you are not a current member of another society or CFA Institute, you will need to contact CFA Institute about the reinstatement process and transfer of society membership. To transfer to Hartford CFA Society from another society, you must inform CFA Institute. Please click here for the CFA Institute web site.

How To Become A Member

There are two types of membership offered by Hartford CFA Society Regular and Affiliate.

Two sponsors are required for both categories of membership from:

1) your immediate supervisor; and 2) a Hartford CFA Society member who is in good standing and personally known to you. If you are self-employed, two regular Hartford CFA Society members in good standing from other companies are required.

To be accepted as a Regular member of the Society, an individual shall be a Regular Member of CFA Institute and shall fulfill such other requirements as the Society may impose consistent with the requirements established by CFA Institute.

To be accepted as an Affiliate member of the Society, an individual shall qualify as, and upon becoming an Affiliate member of the Society be accepted as, an Affiliate Member of CFA Institute and shall have attained one or more of the following experiences:

(1) currently engaged in acceptable professional work experience, but does not qualify for regular membership due to less than the required years of experience;

(2) currently or previously engaged in acceptable professional work experience, but whose work in this capacity does not constitute the applicant’s principal activity;

(3) currently engaged in a closely related occupation to financial analysis.
Requirements for the various memberships can be found on the CFA Institute website at: http://www.cfainstitute.org/memresources/join/requirements.html

To download an application, including Sponsorship Form, please visit: https://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/charterholder/membership/

Regular and Affiliate Hartford CFA Society dues are $50. In addition, you will pay dues to CFA Institute, which vary depending on membership type and time of year you join.  Upon final approval, you will receive an invoice from CFA Institute, which includes all dues for CFA Institute and Hartford CFA Society. After CFA Institute receives your payment, you will begin receiving program information and the Financial Analysts Journal, CFA Institute Newsletter, Standards of Practice Handbook and CFA Institute Membership Directory. A broad spectrum of publications is also available for purchase.

How To Find a Sponsor

It is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain two sponsors who are members of Hartford CFA Society. The sponsor form is obtained through CFA Institute (www.CFAInstitute.org). You may substitute your immediate supervisor for one sponsor (they need not be a member if they are your supervisor). When you have the forms completed, return them to CFA Institute for initial approval.

A good way to meet a sponsor is to attend an event - visit www.hartfordcfa.org for a listing of upcoming events.  In addition, check with colleagues or business neighbors - with more than 600 members in the Hartford - Springfield, you're sure to find someone nearby who knows a CFA Charter Holder.  Otherwise, please contact the Membership Chair for assistance in locating a sponsor at info@hartfordcfa.org
